Wrought Iron For Your Home

When accentuating your home, it can be easily done with wrought iron. Wrought iron goes well against light and neutral colored walls, it is very durable, and is fairly reasonable in price. Mostly it is used in the home in light fixtures like chandeliers and sconces (these are really set off if there is a mirror behind it). Then it can be used in a more practical things like magazine racks, tables and beds. Wrought iron styles range from baroque, airy or Gothic.

Wrought iron at the turn of the 20th century was used in a very interesting way. As ceiling tiles, these were forged or stamped in a regular pattern with either sunken or raised edges. These then were put in a “tile pattern on the ceiling” throughout the home. Because wrought iron needs high temperatures to work with it and it is a brittle metal, this makes it very hard material to use a machine on it.

So vast majority of the products made from wrought iron are hand made. This makes it easier in the sense that the metal can be formed into many airy or light designs with it and it still is durable. Since wrought iron is hand-made, buying a product is much like buying a painting. But unlike a painting from the artist you like, sometimes you can get the piece you want custom-made to suit your needs.

Wrought iron accents uses are very diverse from lighting fixtures in the home to outside. This metal unless immersed in water will not rust once properly sealed. so it can be used in the bathroom as towel racks and door knobs. Most people are familiar with wrought iron in the kitchen as pot

racks and baker racks; where in the kitchen it gives a certain Old World charm in a modern kitchen. Now in the bedroom if you are into Feng Shui this can be easily done with wrought iron. Wrought iron is an important element in the practice of Feng Shui, it is believed to bring healing to the room.

Feng Shui is the art of balancing the energies flowing throughout the room. This accomplished by carefully placing any objects in the room to balance out the energies. So with that in mind an iron bed would do that nicely. In Feng Shui pairs of items like matching nightstands ” are said to
bring harmony to a room.” This just an example of a personality wrought iron can bring to a room.

There are many other types of personalities to choose from. The hard part choosing which one is you. Whether it is contemporary, casual, country, traditional or all of the above you should look at how wrought iron would fit in.

Then there is the color scheme in your home, is it full of light colors, patterns, textures. solids, plaids bold colors or pastels? Then there is the over all materials like wood types such as a dark hardwood like rose wood. This a nice combination by the way.

Another question to ask yourself is the purpose that you want wrought iron. Is it going to be used in the kitchen, the bathroom, the den or a
child’s room.

No matter what you choose just remember to have fun as you go on the hunt for the perfect addition to your home.

The railings made from wrought iron present a traditional look to the porch and the staircases of your house. However if you can spend sometime yourself and follow the points mentioned below, you may carry out repairs yourself.

Upkeep of Hand Railings in Wrought Iron

Use of railings made from wrought iron has been known since the 17th century. During that time, the concept of extracting metals had just started. Only a very few artisans could work with wrought iron railings, hence these were considered to be a special art which could be handled by artists only. The railings made from wrought iron are resistant to rust, but these are not resistant to shock. If anything drops on the railings, these will definitely break.
